“Try it” Tuesday, pt. III

Processed with MOLDIV

Yay! New look for the blog and a new post! Today’s “Try it” post is full of some awesome ideas/trends to carry in to the Spring/Summer seasons.

Processed with MOLDIVWhat is it? Reusable water bottles…really stylish ones. Made from non-leaching and non-toxic stainless steel, these bad boys (and girls) are a well designed solution to the “plastic bottle issue” that we’ve been fighting for years.

Why try it?  S’well bottles have set themselves apart from the competition by creating sleek and sometimes chic patterns on their exterior, using non-toxic materials and staying close to the original feel and shape of the typical, plastic water bottle that we’ve carried around [and then trashed] for ages.

For me, the deterrent from jumping on the “Ban the Bottle” train in the past was the overall bulk of those reusables. It’s either too big for your cupholder or too heavy for your purse. I’m sorry but there must be a convenience factor in there somewhere. Enter,  S’well bottle.

Yes! Sleek, light-weight, no harmful chemicals (translation: if you live in Florida like this girl,  you can leave it in your 6,000 degree car without any concern about your water being “poisoned” by an over-heated container), keeps your drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12, AND its durable. I don’t know about you, but I get impressed when a water bottle tells me it can keep my drink hot or cold for more than the average school/work day. I mean, those are some huge factors. In fact, that’s growler territory.

So. I say “try it,” because we need a solution to the excess oil, energy and plastic waste that happens each year in the U.S., as a result of making and consuming plastic water bottles. This is a MIGHTY GOOD ONE.

Processed with MOLDIVWhat is it? A clothing trend that has emerged from the average American’s desire to (a) be comfortable, and (b) wear workout clothes literally EVERYWHERE.

Why try it? Uh, life is busy. Weather can be fickle. Yoga pants are slimming. There may or may not be a lot of workout clothes in your closet that never get used don’t get used as often as they probably should. You might be a mom. You might be a nanny. You might be a  professional dog-walker. You might attend Saturday/Sunday brunches directly before or after your spin class. I can go on. No? Then I’ll assume you get the picture.

Athleisure is a fun and loosely defined trend that I plan to take full advantage of as the weather warms up. Its about layering your favorite workout pieces and learning how to transition them from gym to grocery to lunch date.

Keep in mind: Tennis shoes have been and will continue to be the backbone of this trend, as more and more designers get in on the fun. If you’re not feeling a complete committal to the “athleisure role,” perhaps start with a fun pair of tennis shoes and a cute dress for spring. Once you taste the comfort, you’ll never go back…

For some fun and versatile pants, try: THESE, THESE, THESETHESE, or  THESE

And for tops–really, don’t get me started, but… here are some of my MANY suggestions: THIS ONE, THIS ONE, THIS ONETHIS ONE, THIS ONE or THIS ONE

❤ ❤ ❤ so many good ones.

Processed with MOLDIVWhat is it? Undoubtably the most hip sauce on the planet right now. “This bright red, multi-purpose hot sauce is made from red chili peppers, garlic, vinegar, salt, and sugar. The sauce is hot and tangy with just a hint of sweetness, which sets it apart from your garden variety hot sauces (via AboutFood).”

Why try it? Okay, I’ll be real here. I am not so naive as to think that I’m the first person to introduce you to this sauce. You’ve probably already tried it, and you probably love it. The point of my listing Sriracha on the “Try It” list this Tuesday has less to do with you tasting the sauce for the first time, and more to do with you incorporating it into new recipes, more frequently. Be on the lookout, because this stuff is literally so hot right now (sorry, I couldn’t resist). Chefs, foodies and culinary mags are continuing to jump on this stuff. 2016 is predicted to be another big year for new Sriracha recipes and pairings in the food world, and you don’t want to miss it.

Processed with MOLDIVWhat is it? Short for “Beauty Balm,” the BB Creme is a tinted moisturizer that provides sun protection, color correction and an easy, “made up” look without the thickness and weight of a foundation. One-step. So simple.

Why try it? Again, you know what this stuff is, because the BB Creme craze has been happening for a few years now. BUT, with summer being right around the corner and with the constant improvements being made in the BB Creme industry, focusing on the best new creme for your skin/lifestyle is a definite “try it.”

Processed with MOLDIVWhat is it? Pretty much this year’s “it” shoe, the flat mule is perfectly effortless, comfortable and can be paired with anything from denim cutoffs to an LBD.

Why try it? Well. Shoes have a way of boring me, after a while.

Exhibit a)  I, like many, MANY style-loving females, had a long and committed relationship with the “ballet flat.” So much so, that I had a pair of those bad boys in every. single. color. There was the camel flat, the gold flat, the black flat, the leopard flat…. I had ’em all. And then, one day I left the house in a pair, only to return home with the resolution of literally never wearing another ballet flat again. “I swear, if i have to look down at the same shoe one more time…” It wasn’t that the shoes looked ratty, or used… because they didn’t. The problem was the way that they suddenly failed to complete my outfit, the way they once had.

Sometimes stuff just goes out of style and you can feel it.

So… after sitting out a few of the newer “flat shoe” trends (hello, jelly sandals and adidas slides) I noticed a new, and yet not so new, player on the street.

Originally, the mule was a 70’s thing (or so I’ve read). The new take on this season’s mule is a flatter, more streamlined silhouette, that makes it less attention-grabbing as it’s chunky, heeled cousin, but equally as fashion-forward.

Time to complete the outfit again!!
