Here to Stay: Berry Lips + Simple Eyes

When it comes to the super trendy fads, I try to steer clear, because spending money on something that will last maybe one season is not an investment worth making. I’m not so different when learning the ‘ins and outs’ of a beauty trend. If it’s going to quickly become outdated I’ll certainly not be wasting my time (and always large amounts of effort) to apply it. Since, I already spend time investigating the many looks of each season, I’ll pass on some of what I’ve gleaned from the latest sources. The “Here to Stay” series will give you peeks at the season’s—and most likely, next couple of season’s—most prominent and investment-worthy trends.

Today: the berry lip, paired with a simple, bright eye. No matter your skin tone, style or hair color, this look always appears flawless and planned. My own affinity for this look stems from how diverse it can be. Whether you’re in an edgy, “I’m-Cara-Delevingne-today” mood or feeling like Kate Middleton, a full berry-stained pout and long lashes, somehow fits the look perfectly.

Here are some of the “berry” best shades to use (…get it?).IMG_0723

  1. L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Blushing Berry
  2. Wet N Wild Mega Last Lip Color in Vamp it Up
  3. Wet N Wild Mega Last Lip Color in Cherry Bomb
  4. Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Plum Velour
  5. Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Berry Haute
  6. Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Black Cherry

 Things to keep in mind:

Wearing a dark or bright color on your lips tends to cause any blemishes on the skin to become more prominent. In combination with a committed skincare regiment, I always make sure to exfoliate and moisturize before applying a light, creamy foundation like L’Oreal True Match Lumi with a stippling brush. Then set concealer on dark circles or unwanted blemishes with your fingers (if your hands are cold, rub your them together for about 10 seconds before you use them–warm hands/fingers help perfect the blending process) to create a smooth and even base for the look.

Also, since mascara is the only eye makeup used in this look, it helps to add drama by curling the lashes prior and then placing a dab of highlighting cream in the inner corner of your eye.
